In the case of this Catholic hospital (the 12th largest hospital in the nation), it was one of several Catholic hospitals that was told it would lose its Accreditation if it did not extinguish the flame in the enclosed candle holder in use continuously for 63 years in its chapel - the government threatened to shut down Saint Francis’s ability to see Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP patients (no longer providing reimbursements, i.e. the ‘funding’), effectively shuttering Saint Francis (non-profit) in its entirety. It seems other Catholic hospitals acquiesced by goint to electric candles. Bullies, the first thing they go after – God. The impressive winning Becket filled a letter threatening a lawsuit. Wonders be, HHS back down.
